Form and Functions
Project 1 (Form and Function) was to create a bridge with a moving piece to allow for a 30'x40' space for water traffic. The main idea was to take an existing solid bridge and an existing tool or item of some sort and incorporate the moving mechanism from the tool and use that to redesign the bridge.
Ideas

Bridge Name: Ross Island Bridge
Bridge Location: Portland, Oregon
Bridge Type: Cantilever

Bridge Type: Truss

Bridge Name: Silver Jubilee Bridge

Bridge Type: Arch bridge

Movement Analogies
These are the 3 objects (tools) we chose to use from our homes in order to diagram into their moving mechanisms.

Wine Bottle Opener

Camera with Folding Screen

Eyelash Curler
3x3 Table
After finding 3 bridges and 3 objects with moving mechanisms we had to then make a 3x3 table to ensure we would be making 9 mock-up designs. Once all 9 were finished we chose 1 design to fully make into a 3D diagram which would be our final products.

Selected Prototypes
This is the selected bridge, object and mock diagram from the table.
